White Christmas

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Sprinkling Reindeer food in the front yard Christmas Eve.

This was the sight that greeted us outside our front door. First snow here on Christmas since 1989! (and even in '89 it was a tenth of an inch. We got 3 inches!)

Momma and Daddy snowmen (snow lady?)

Awwww..... snow people love.

Ache-y Break-y Haircut

It's a well known fact that I love a little girl in a hairbow. Ever since the first day the ultrasound tech told us we were having a girl, I've had nothing but dreams of a baby girl in a bishop with the largest bow I could possibly fit on her little head. (It builds neck strength right? - Who needs tummy time, when you've got a hairbow?)

Well, as our little princess has grown, she's taken to having just a few opinions about her hair. Just a few. Every morning she dictates her hairstyle - ponytail, braid, etc. But the weekend before Christmas, she made her biggest hair statement yet.

I was in the kitchen cooking up some sort of yummy treat, when all of the sudden ML walks in and says, "Mommy, something has happened to my hair." I looked over and sure enough, something HAD happened to her hair.

She had a mullet.

She had gotten a pair of scissors and chopped off one side of her hair and then the other, leaving the back in all of it's much longer glory.

After I recovered, (and comforted us both. ML started crying saying that she looked like a boy and that she wasn't beautiful anymore. Which I assured her was not true!) I took ML to see our favorite hair stylist, Ms. Kristi - so thankful she was working and willing to accept us on such short notice!

We now have a darling little bob, that looks just precious on ML. (And thankfully, is long enough for a hairbow...........)

Business in the front (doesn't she look so innocent?)

Super Party Time

I don't know about you, but Birthdays are some of my favorite days. I mean, who doesn't like a little cake and a few balloons? (And maybe a little more cake?) This past Sunday was not only the first Super Bowl Sunday I've really taken an interest in, it was also my Dad's Birthday! So we hung up the banners and baked the cupcakes and threw one rockin' "Super Sunday" party. Here are a few pics:

Papa with the grandkids

Papa blowing out his birthday candle.

My dad was nice enough to wear ML's birthday hat when L & JR thought it would be hysterical and begged him to put it on.

Cincinnati (aka Skyline) chili. If you've never had it, you're missing out!

Playing a few games that the kids were actually interested in - it appears the adults were more interested in the "big game."

Super Bowl & 6 Degrees

It seems I have football on the brain! But I'm pretty excited about the Super Bowl tomorrow mainly because of this guy in Blue right here:
His name is Jerraud Powers and once upon a time he was a part of the youth group I directed. Now, even though I was his Youth Minister, I didn't know him all that well. I think most of our bonding time was spent at the Dean's house, after a DHS home game, enjoying Mrs. Deans famous chocolate chip cookies.

We haven't kept in touch, and I can't call him my BFF, but I have enjoyed watching him play over the years. Even though this is his first year in the NFL, Rob and I were THRILLED when we found out he would be playing for Auburn University. (And just in case you think you don't know who Jerraud is, you do - he's that guy who was bitten on the hand by a police guard dog during the 2007 Auburn/ Alabama game. Yep. That guy - you remember him! Of course, he's also the guy who did this.) There are reports that Jerraud won't be able to play due to injury, but either way - when am I ever going to know (or have known) someone who plays on a Super Bowl worthy team?

So even though most Southerners, at least most Alabamians, will be cheering on the Nawlins Saints Super Bowl Sunday, I think I'll be pulling for the Colts {even if their quarterback did once play for "that" SEC team}.

Happy Super Bowl Everybody!

Life & Tim Tebow

You know, I hardly ever get very "deep" on this blog of mine. I really just set it up for a few friends and family in the pre- Facebook days as a way of keeping up and getting some photos out there. But a few days ago, I read something (ironically on Facebook :-) that had me thinking and I just had to share.

While the rest of the country had already chosen their 'love-him-or-hate-him' sides on Tim Tebow, until about 3 months ago, he slipped completely under my radar. I think it was the Florida/ Alabama SEC Championship game that catapulted him into my life. I was pretty appalled at some of the hurtful things said about that poor boy after he cried at the end of that game. Some of those hurtful things were said and broadcast (once again on Facebook..... do you see a pattern here???) by people who really ought to know better.

But two days ago, I noticed that several of my Facebook friends had joined a group called "Support Tim Tebows Superbowl Ad." I was intrigued, but really didn't look into it until my friend, Libby, posted a link to THIS article about the ad.

Turns out that, but for the grace of God and the faith of his mother, Tim Tebow might never have been. Because Mrs. Tebow was treated for malaria in the Philippines. And the drugs the doctor gave her were so strong that the doctor recommended that Mrs. Tebow end the pregnancy. Mrs. Tebow already had 4 healthy children. Why should she risk all of the possible (and they were immensely possible) problems that this child might have?

Why indeed?

And that's where my heart stopped. Because you see, my husband, Rob, is the youngest of 5 children. He's the 5th. And do you know how my mother in law found out she was expecting? Right after surgery to remove her gall bladder. Surgery which required such strong drugs that the doctor recommended that my mother in law terminate her pregnancy. She already had 4 healthy children. Why should she risk all the possible (and they were immensely possible) problems that this child might have?

Why indeed?

Because they might change the world that's why. My favorite part in that article posted by my friend Libby was this one:

"Here's what we do need a lot more of: Tebows. Collegians who are selfless enough to choose not to spend summers poolside, but travel to impoverished countries to dispense medical care to children, as Tebow has every summer of his career. Athletes who believe in something other than themselves, and are willing to put their backbone where their mouth is. Celebrities who are self-possessed and self-controlled enough to use their wattage to advertise commitment over decadence," Jenkins continues."You know what we really need more of? Famous guys who aren't embarrassed to practice sexual restraint, and to say it out loud. If we had more of those, women might have fewer abortions," she adds.

Amen

And "my" 5th child/ husband may be no Tim Tebow, but I can't imagine life without him.

I'm not here to debate right or wrong or EVER to judge, but here's to all the mothers who make the difficult choice. I'd like to think I'd have as much courage, but I honestly don't know. To those who walk in faith and trust in He who holds the future, you are in my heart and you are in my prayers.
